IAN GOUGH
Could you share a bit about your background and what hobbies or passions you enjoy outside of handball and charity work?
I currently work as UK Managing Director for Fontaine Fifth Wheel. I have worked there for the last 17 years, with my initial role for the company being Financial Controller. Outside of handball and charity work, my passion is all things sport. I still play football in a local six-a-side league and also coach my youngest daughter’s netball team. Aside from this, my other main role is being Dad’s taxi, taking both my daughters all over the country to watch them play both handball and netball.
What drew you to join the Handball Foundation?
My daughter has loved been part of Trafford Handball Club for the last four years, and as her passion for the sport has grown, so has mine. By joining the foundation I feel like I am giving a little something back and at the same time helping the sport grow.
If you could introduce one fun change to our charity, what would it be?
Good question, I am not too sure. Maybe, all meetings should be in the pub!
Do you have a favourite handball memory that you’d like to share with us?
Watching my daughter play for GB U17s for the first time and singing the national anthem.
How do you think your experience or skills will help our charity grow?
I bring with me a broad range of experience from managing sports teams to managing accounts.
As a trustee, what’s the first big goal you’d like to score for our charity?
Increased participation.
REECE KILLWORTH
Could you share a bit about your background and what hobbies or passions you enjoy outside of handball and charity work?
I have spent my whole working life in journalism – at the Press Association, Sportinglife.com and now BBC Sport. Sport is my main passion – I am a Manchester United season-ticket holder but also support Southend United, and play badminton for a local club. I enjoy watching both of my children pursuing sporting interests too – my son plays football and handball and is a grassroots football referee, and my daughter swims.
What drew you to join the Handball Foundation?
Handball is not a sport many of us have grown up with. But since my son joined Trafford Handball Club in 2019 he has loved every minute of it – and we now have a shared passion for the sport. The opportunity to help spread the word of all that is good about handball is one I was keen to take. Also, as most of us have learned, when Stan speaks, you listen!
If you could introduce one fun change to our charity, what would it be?
Those who know me best would find the idea of me suggesting something ‘fun’ hilarious so it’s probably best I leave that to others!
Do you have a favourite handball memory that you’d like to share with us?
Travelling to Nottingham to watch my son and his Trafford team-mates play in the National finals in 2022. They – like everyone – had been through a rough time through the height of Covid and though they were beaten by Shropshire, the experience is one I’m sure they will remember forever.
How do you think your experience or skills will help our charity grow?
I hope to be able to get some publicity for the great work the foundation will do.
As a trustee, what’s the first big goal you’d like to score for our charity?
Getting the funding in place to grow the schools programme locally.
PAUL O’DRISCOLL
Could you share a bit about your background and what hobbies or passions you enjoy outside of handball and charity work?
I am a Senior Programme Manager working for a large pharma company and am a mentor, supporting our apprentice and graduate programmes. I am also a qualified Mental Health First Aider, providing support for those who need someone to talk to or to be listened to. I enjoy supporting both my children in their pursuit of sports and drama, and am working to get fitter and healthier as I get old as I have some personal goals before my 50th birthday next year.
What drew you to join the Handball Foundation?
My son has been a member of Trafford Handball for a few years, and I have seen how being part of the club has grown his confidence and allowed him to connect with a new friendship group. The club, the parents and the children were all very welcoming. I wanted to get more involved in supporting the club and when I learned about the Handball Foundation, I was very keen to offer my services to help.
If you could introduce one fun change to our charity, what would it be?
Fancy dress option for all trustee meetings…
Do you have a favourite handball memory that you’d like to share with us?
My favourite memory has to be meeting my son and the Trafford Handball Club at Manchester Airport following the trip to the Partille Cup in Sweden…. seeing the lines of happy yet tired faces and the children all wearing items of clothing belonging to the many teams that participated. My son still wears these items regularly.
How do you think your experience or skills will help our charity grow?
I have worked in a number of corporate companies and have also supported schools, drama schools, and local grassroots football clubs. I feel I have both a professional and a personal lens to add to the future grown and success of the charity and can offer a wealth of experience to making this a huge success.
As a trustee, what’s the first big goal you’d like to score for our charity?
I want to see a surge in people joining handball and seeking to increase the diversification of people joining handball. Handball should be accessible to everyone and I want to see the Foundation as an ambassador for inclusion and diversity.
SALLY STANTON
Could you share a bit about your background and what hobbies or passions you enjoy outside of handball and charity work?
I’m a handball mum with a passion for travel (not just the taxi route to and from training!). One day I will adventure around the world but in the mean time I’ve got a hitlist of 50 countries I’d like to visit in the next five years. I love spending my spare time outside – walking, camping, swimming and gardening.
What drew you to join the Handball Foundation?
I’ve been a club parent/supporter for the past eight years and also a charity trustee for 10 years for Citizens Advice Bureau. My daughter has had some amazing opportunities through handball and I’m super proud of her and the club. When Trafford Handball announced its ambition to create the Handball Foundation, it seemed like a golden opportunity to combine my support and experience as a trustee to create something for future generations of handball players.
If you could introduce one fun change to our charity, what would it be?
A fancy dress handball tournament.
How do you think your experience or skills will help our charity grow?
I have business and marketing experience and have previously been a charity trustee. I (nearly) understand the rules of handball and have had two children who have progressed through the club so I understand the parental contribution. Most importantly, I have experienced first-hand the passion and dedication from the coaches, the club and the players.
As a trustee, what’s the first big goal you’d like to score for our charity?
Some corporate sponsorship
